Just a simple portrait of a juvenile Burrowing Owl taken in the soft light of dawn. Burrowing Owls are beautiful birds with lemony yellow eyes, downy soft feathers and subtle coloration. It’s hard to believe that they aren’t that much different in size from an American Robin.

It may be a simple portrait but you’ve really captured the best side of this Juvenile Burrowing Owl. Good focus, well-balanced contrast and soft colors.Congratulations, Mia, on a great capture. How did you manage to get so close?

Thanks for your comment on this Ken, they are such beautiful little owls and a favorite of mine. The burrow that this juvenile came from was within 15 feet from a road side and when the owlets started coming out of the burrow they would pose in close range. I used a vehicle for a mobile blind and they would just go on about their business as if I wasn’t there.
