Argaty Kites is based in Sterlingshire at the village of Doune near Callander in central Scotland. It is a red kite feeding station and is getting a good reputation for its work in looking after the local wildlife and the red kites in particular. There is an intensive ringing and monitoring program, the local kites are ringed and kites visiting the area are monitored.

It is also a very good place to get images of the stunning birds. The birds are fed in the afternoon, and around thirty of them congregate and pick up the food giving very good views of the birds flying around and interacting. I waited for a day which had brilliant winter sunshine, the sun at this time of year keeps low, and with the feeding station up a hill the sun lights up the underside of the birds. During the summer months the sun is higher and shines on the top of the birds leaving the underside in the shade. Below are a few images from the afternoon at Argaty Kites
