The Black-bellied Whistling Duck

Sighted in Lake Eustis, Florida. It can become skittish and difficult to shoot at times. Its reddish brown colors and yellowish orange bill with its white tipped wings make it very distinct. In Europe this duck is not known. Its common name in Central and S. America is pichichi, suirirí piquirojo, pato maizal, and pijia or pato silvon. Shot at ISO 400, f/8, 1/250, at 400mm with the Canon 60D and the 100-400mm L IS Canon lens.

I am Maria Firpi. I was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have shot both film and digital for about 10 years and I'm a Wildlife photographer. I like to blog about birds, flora, and fauna in tropical and subtropical regions of U.S. I consider myself a fine art photographer. I seek self expression through my images. I use a Canon 60D with a 100-400mm L IS zoom lens, a 70-200mm f/4 L IS, a 60mm f/2.8, and 100mm f/2.8 from Canon. I like to observe animal behavior and document it as naturally as it was found, even when using Photoshop. I mostly shoot in lakes, beaches, and parks. Feel free to contact me.
