The Fairy Pitta is one of the most beautiful of this colorful family of birds. However, this species is notoriously shy and requires a mix of forest, leaf litter and streams for its breeding habitat. Being restricted to breeding in Northeast Asia, particularly Taiwan and Japan, the Fairy Pitta is becoming increasing rare through loss of suitable habitat.
