Lyric night of the lingering Indian Summer,
\nShadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing,
\nNever a bird, but the passionless chant of insects,
\nCeaseless, insistent.<\/p>\n

The grasshopper’s horn, and far-off, high in the maples,
\nThe wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence
\nUnder a moon waning and worn, broken,
\nTired with summer.<\/p>\n

Let me remember you, voices of little insects,
\nWeeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters,
\nLet me remember, soon will the winter be on us,
\nSnow-hushed and heavy.<\/p>\n

Over my soul murmur your mute benediction,
\nWhile I gaze, O fields that rest afterharvest,
\nAs those who part look long in the eyes they lean to,
\nLest they forget them.<\/p>\n
