{"id":2173013,"date":"2024-02-04T06:00:44","date_gmt":"2024-02-04T05:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusingonwildlife.com\/news\/?p=2173013"},"modified":"2024-12-14T15:12:48","modified_gmt":"2024-12-14T14:12:48","slug":"chile-becomes-45th-country-to-ban-cosmetic-testing-on-animals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusingonwildlife.com\/news\/chile-becomes-45th-country-to-ban-cosmetic-testing-on-animals\/","title":{"rendered":"Chile Becomes 45th Country To Ban Cosmetic Testing On Animals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A huge victory has been won for animals in Chile after several years of campaigning by Humane Society International (HSI) and ONG Te Protejo.<\/p>\n<p>A unanimous vote by the Senate passed a bill on December 20 that bans cosmetic testing on animals and bans the sale, marketing, and import of cosmetics tested on animals from other places in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of thousands of rabbits have endured unimaginable cruelty for \u201cbeauty\u201d products. They are blinded, burned, and left suffering to test skin and eye products.<\/p>\n<p>This cruel and outdated method must come to an end. That is why HSI started the Be-Cruelty Free campaign to end the suffering and be a voice for the voiceless.<\/p>\n<p>A short movie featuring their spokes-rabbit \u201cRalph\u201d depicts the terrible life of a rabbit in a lab and sheds light on the barbaric testing method.<\/p>\n<p>It went viral in 2021 shortly after its release and resulted in more than 300,000 petition signatures in Chile.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Save Ralph - A short film with Taika Waititi\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G393z8s8nFY\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>More and more countries are seeing the light and banning cosmetic testing on animals. There are alternative methods, like scientifically proven human skin equivalent tests, that do not involve animals. Today we are delighted to welcome Chile to this list of nations and commend Juan Antonio Coloma and members of Senate for making the landmark legislation a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All their hard work paid off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a milestone for our organization and for animals.
