The bear had broken into the classroom at Peak to Peak Charter School in Pine Mountain Club, a small town located about 90 miles north of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
The bear\u2019s target? Granola bars stored in the classroom\u2019s emergency earthquake kits.<\/p>\n
The teacher, Elaine Salmon, had stepped out to the school office to print some paperwork.<\/p>\n
Upon returning, she was startled to see the bear trapped inside her classroom.<\/p>\n
The bear had managed to enter the room but was struggling to find its way out.<\/p>\n
Elaine\u2019s husband, Ian Sawrey, who specializes in handling bear encounters in the rural area, safely removed the animal.<\/p>\n
Sawrey explained that bear encounters have become increasingly common in the region, with bears even breaking into homes in search of food.<\/p>\n
He highlighted that residents have been taking various measures to protect themselves, such as setting up bear patrols, and installing dangerous and cruel deterrents like electrified windows and nail-filled mats.<\/p>\n
