A water buffalo in Iowa, which became an unexpected celebrity after escaping from its human just moments before it was to be slaughtered, has been safely captured and is now on its way to a new life.<\/p>\n
The animal, affectionately named \u201cPHill\u201d by locals, had a dramatic journey that captured the attention and hearts of many across the state and beyond.<\/p>\n
The incident began in rural Polk County, Iowa, when PHill made a daring escape, knocking down his human just as he was about to be killed. The escape triggered a tense situation as the water buffalo roamed freely near the Pleasant Hill city limits.<\/p>\n
When local police responded, PHill became aggressive, prompting an officer to shoot the animal, causing injuries that later required medical attention.<\/p>\n
Without the proper equipment to safely handle such a large and powerful animal, local authorities warned the public to stay away and to contact them immediately if the water buffalo was spotted.<\/p>\n
PHill\u2019s story took a hopeful turn when the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines and the Iowa Farm Sanctuary stepped in.<\/p>\n
After his capture, he was transferred to the Iowa State University Large Animal Hospital in Ames, where his injuries will be treated before he is moved to the Iowa Farm Sanctuary for long-term care.<\/p>\n
Shawn Camp, the founder of the Iowa Farm Sanctuary, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of Support from the community.<\/p>\n
The sanctuary also plans to rescue two other water buffalos from the property where PHill had lived.<\/p>\n
