A young child has been attacked by a dingo on K’gari island off the Queensland coast.

The three-year-old was bitten on the back of the leg while walking along the beach near Kingfisher Bay on the west of the island at 5pm on Saturday.

The dingo reportedly kept following the child and family even after the parents tried to scare it away.

Two people on yachts who witnessed the child get bitten also attempted to move the dingo on but it remained on the beach.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are now trying to track down the tagged dingo responsible for the incident.

Visitors to the island have been urged to adhere by ‘dingo-safe’ practices which include carrying a stick, walking in groups and avoiding running.

Last August, a four-year-old girl was bitten on the chest and scratched by the wild animal on nearby Orchid Beach.

K’gari – formerly known as Fraser Island – was also marred by a series of dingo attacks in 2023.

An eight-year-old boy was attacked in early July and a 10-year-old boy was dragged underwater by a dingo in June.

A 24-year-old woman was also hospitalised in July after she was attacked by a pack of dingoes while out jogging on the beach.

A six-year-old girl was left with puncture wounds to her head and hand after a dingo attack in April.
