{"id":2185560,"date":"2025-02-10T06:00:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T05:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusingonwildlife.com\/news\/?p=2185560"},"modified":"2026-01-30T04:02:03","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T03:02:03","slug":"maga-controlled-wyoming-legislature-proposes-open-season-on-mountain-lions-and-grizzly-bears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusingonwildlife.com\/news\/maga-controlled-wyoming-legislature-proposes-open-season-on-mountain-lions-and-grizzly-bears\/","title":{"rendered":"MAGA Controlled Wyoming Legislature Proposes Open Season on Mountain Lions and Grizzly Bears"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Wyoming MAGA contingent that now controls the full legislature introduced\u00a0House Bill 0286, a proposed bill that would strip critical protections for cougars in Wyoming.<\/p>\n<p>HB 0286 proposes the following changes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elimination of hunting zones and geographic boundaries for cougars.<\/li>\n<li>Removal of statewide and local mortality limits, allowing unrestricted killing of cougars at any time, by any means.<\/li>\n<li>Authorization of cougar trapping and snaring, practices that are neither selective nor humane.<\/li>\n<li>Remove existing revenue stream from Wyoming Game &amp; Fish Department with broad allowances for hunting cougars with other game licenses, such as antelope, deer, or elk licenses, bypassing the requirement for a dedicated cougar license.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This same MAGA contingent has proposed in House Bill 0286 giving every hunter a stamp to kill as many grizzly bears as they wish outside the Yellowstone recovery area.<\/p>\n<p><i>This article by Jonathan Ratner was first published by The Wildlife News on 4 February 2025.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<h2>What you can do<\/h2>\n<p>If you can, please make a donation on a monthly basis.
