The alarming decline in snow crab populations in Kodiak, Alaska, has created an urgent need for conservation and climate action.

For the second consecutive year, the snow crab fishing season has been canceled due to a drastic 90% drop in their numbers.

This crisis not only threatens the local ecosystem but also the livelihoods of countless fishers and their communities.

Sign this petition to urge the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to implement sustainable fishing practices and address the underlying climate change factors affecting snow crab populations.

Recent research links the snow crabs’ disappearance to a marine heat wave driven by climate change, severely impacting their food supply and leading to widespread starvation.

This situation serves as a stark reminder of how rapidly changing environmental conditions can decimate species and disrupt ecosystems.

The snow crab crisis in Alaska is a clear indicator of the broader impacts of climate change on marine life. It’s essential to adopt a holistic approach that addresses both overfishing and the escalating climate crisis.

By implementing strict regulations on snow crab fishing and taking decisive action against global warming, we can give these crucial species a chance to recover and flourish.

Sign the petition to demand NOAA and the U.S. Department of Commerce take immediate steps to safeguard the future of snow crabs and the fishing industry dependent on them.
