The Trump administration is proposing a harmful change to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) that could devastate countless species and the environment.<\/p>\n

The proposal is designed to benefit industries like oil, gas, mining, and logging, who have long lobbied for weaker environmental laws to increase their profits.<\/p>\n

If this moves forward, species like the northern spotted owl, the lynx, the panther, and countless others are at even greater risk of extinction.<\/p>\n

Sign this petition to demand that Congress reject this reckless proposal and protect our endangered wildlife and their homes!<\/p>\n

This proposal seeks to redefine “harm” to exclude habitat destruction from being considered a threat to endangered species.<\/p>\n

This means activities like draining wetlands, cutting down trees, or poisoning rivers where endangered species live could be deemed perfectly acceptable as long as it doesn’t directly harm an individual animal.<\/p>\n

This drastic change is a direct attack on decades of successful conservation efforts. For years, the ESA has helped protect our most vulnerable animals by recognizing that habitat destruction is just as damaging as direct harm to animals themselves.<\/p>\n

The loss of habitat, especially at such a critical time when biodiversity is rapidly declining, could mean the end for these animals and the ecosystems they rely on.<\/p>\n

This is not just a blow to the animals struggling for survival but to the very essence of conservation.<\/p>\n

Wildlife in catastrophic decline<\/h2>\n

The 73% decline in vertebrate wildlife populations during the last 50 years (mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish), is primarily driven by human activities that threaten biodiversity.<\/p>\n

Habitat Loss and Degradation<\/em> – human activities like deforestation, urbanization, and agriculture have led to the destruction and fragmentation of natural habitats, reducing the space and resources available for wildlife.<\/p>\n

Pollution<\/em> – air, water, and soil pollution from industrial activities, agriculture, and other sources can harm wildlife directly or indirectly by affecting their habitats and food sources.<\/p>\n

Climate Change<\/em> – changing weather patterns, rising temperatures, and sea levels are disrupting ecosystems and impacting species’ ability to adapt and survive.<\/p>\n

Overexploitation of Resources<\/em> – unsustainable hunting, fishing, and logging practices can lead to the depletion of populations and the loss of biodiversity.<\/p>\n

Invasive Species<\/em> – the introduction of non-native species can disrupt ecosystems, compete with native species, and threaten their survival.<\/p>\n
