Nature has once again proven how resilient life can be. In Brazil, scientists have documented thousands of tiny bumblebee catfish scaling waterfalls up to four meters high, a feat that seems almost impossible for fish less than four centimeters long.<\/p>\n
According to ScienceAlert, the surprising behavior was first noticed when police spotted the fish swarming rocks at night and alerted researchers nearby.<\/p>\n
The black-striped, orange-finned catfish, known scientifically as Rhyacoglanis paranensis, were observed spreading their fins wide to anchor themselves before wriggling upward like miniature climbers.<\/p>\n
Researchers suspect the fish also use suction to cling to slick stone surfaces, helping them ascend the rushing waterfall. At times, the swarms were so dense that fish piled on top of one another to push upward as a mass.<\/p>\n
The migration seems to be part of their breeding cycle, much like salmon. Samples revealed that the climbers were mostly adults with empty stomachs, suggesting they were conserving energy for reproduction.<\/p>\n
Remarkably, the fish were so determined that they even managed to wriggle up the sides of a researcher\u2019s bucket.<\/p>\n

The researchers stress that such delicate migrations are threatened by human activity, especially river damming and habitat fragmentation.<\/p>\n
