Authorities were alerted of the incident by one of the woman\u2019s neighbors, who eventually came outside and located her.<\/p>\n
When authorities arrived at the scene, the woman was medically evacuated to a hospital in the Anchorage area where she was treated for \u201cserious injuries,\u201d the Alaska Department of Public Safety said.<\/p>\n
No further details were given about the injuries nor what condition the woman was currently in following her initial evaluation and treatment.<\/p>\n
The bear has not yet been located, despite state troopers and a crew from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game joining the police on foot to look for the creature while a drone scanned the area from above. The animal is believed to be a brown bear, based on its tracks and other evidence, CBS News reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlaska Wildlife Troopers, Kenai Police Department, and Alaska Department of Fish and Game personnel searched the area on foot and with a drone looking for the bear,\u201d officials said. \u201cThe bear has not been located. Patrols of the area will continue, and the public is advised to remain vigilant while outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents of the area were also advised to \u201cbe on high alert following a bear attack in the area,\u201d urging people to \u201csupervise children and pets closely\u201d and secure any items that could attract wildlife, particularly the bear, like trash and pet food.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you encounter a bear, keep a safe distance and do not approach,\u201d wildlife troopers said.<\/p>\n
While bear attacks tend to have a negative impact on the community\u2019s collective psyche, these incidents remain relatively rare in the state that is often considered to be \u201cbear country.\u201d According to a 2019 report from state health officials, 10 people died and 68 were hospitalized from injuries stemming from bear attacks throughout Alaska between 2000 and 2017.<\/p>\n
