The weatherman let me down. Instead of partly sunny as forecast, heavy clouds and fog were all I found at sunrise this morning – and a few snow flakes. I hit the road at 5:45 hoping to get one more chance at eagles before they move out of the area. But it was not to be. There were plenty of eagles around, but the fog, low light, and bright overcast sky made shooting them impossible.<\/p>\n

I did enjoy watching this Great Blue Heron feeding for a few minutes though. He plucked about a dozen small fish out of the shallow pool as I clicked off a few shots. But the low light made for very uninspiring images. So when all else fails, go high-key . . .<\/p>\n

I converted this shot to black-and-white using NIK Silver EFEX Pro 2. I added just a touch of contrast and structure, as well as a blue filter, to the High-Key 2 preset.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
