Bald Eagles (Haliaeetusleucocephalus) had always visited Kings County during the winter months to feed on shellfish found along the Bay of Fundy mud flats. Chicken parts thrown out by the large number of chicken farmers in the area supplemented the diet of these eagles andattracted them to the area in large numbers.For thepast 20 year or so,they havebeenthe focus of a winter festival in late January\/early February.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Today the area boasts of the largest wintering population of Bald Eagles in North America, with over 500 birds being recorded.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

A few members of our Camera 35 camera club spent a weekend there January 2012 and had quite the exciting time photographing these awesome raptors at a fairly close range. There were photographers there from as far away as France, with the very best of camera gear – staked out in the prime viewing areas to ensure getting the best shots.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
