I recently was in Costa Rica for nine full days of photography, putting over 7,000 clicks on my cameras. In order to give you a taste of the trip I decided to give you a daily photo journal of my experience in 3 parts.<\/p>\n

Day 1 was just photographing around the bird feeders at Selva Verde Lodge. Just! I photographed 16 different species – what a great first day. It was the best day for Toucans and there was a wide variety of Tanagers as well.<\/p>\n

Here are a few of my better images. They were all taken with a 500mm lens with a 1.4x extender.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Day 2 was also at Selva Verde Lodge. In the morning we walked around the property photographing Monkeys, Iguanas and Lizards. Much of the afternoon was spent doing macro photography of poison dart frogs and other small creatures. After dinner a friend and I searched for and photographed Red-eyed Treefrogs.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Day 3 was for Macaws. Much of the day was spent on a farm where the owner cares for injured birds and also has a pair of Jaguars under his protection. I was able to get plenty of photographs of both Scarlet and Great Green Macaws, but the Jaguars were not very photogenic in their heavy wire enclosures.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
