Lake Kawahara is a small lake by the sea in Nagasaki prefecture, Japan. It is not far from Kabashima, one of the best places for spring and autumn migrants.<\/p>\n

Lake Kawahara is particularly attractive to thrushes and starlings, but smaller passerines also winter here as there is plenty of shelter for them in the forests along the shore, as well as open feeding grounds. The lake itself doesn’t really attract too much in the way of rarities.<\/p>\n

This winter White’s Thrush was the main attraction, but other common winter species are easy to see here, as are common residents.<\/p>\n

While the lake is not really a destination in its own right, it is well worth a quick stop on the way to or from Kabashima!<\/p>\n
