This time of year is exceptionally thrilling for me; while the wintering species are still dominating, there are many “firsts” for the season that appear daily in different corners of the Arava and some of our breeding species already have brood-patches.<\/p>\n

During the last few days numbers of both\u00a0Lesser\u00a0and\u00a0Common Whitethroats, \u00a0Chiffchafs\u00a0and\u00a0Sedge Warblers\u00a0have risen both in the field and at the IBRCE nets.<\/p>\n

The skies are filled with thousands of \u00a0Common\u00a0and\u00a0Pallid Swifts\u00a0as well as huge numbers of\u00a0House Martins.<\/p>\n

Around Yotveta, the first\u00a0Yellow Wagtails\u00a0are joining the many\u00a0Water Pipits\u00a0and\u00a0Bluethroats\u00a0which wintered around and almost everywhere, one can see the first wave of\u00a0Isabeline Wheatears.<\/p>\n

At K20 there is a constant rise of waders (Ruffs, Greenshanks, Green Sand’s) and beautiful\u00a0Kentish Sandpipers\u00a0in full breeding plumage. The most interesting wader though is a\u00a0Golden Plover\u00a0last Wednesday. At N. Beach still one\u00a0Mediterranean Gull\u00a0together with the many\u00a0White-eyed, Black-headed\u00a0and\u00a0Siberian Gulls\u00a0while the many Slender-billed Gulls\u00a0are changing into beautiful pinkish plumage. No signs though of the\u00a0Common Gull\u00a0which was wintering around.<\/p>\n

Up in the sky, there are almost daily movements of \u00a0Steppe Eagles\u00a0and the first\u00a0Pallid Harrier\u00a0was seen yesterday by Liron Ziv. The Larks seem to decrease in numbers (or are they just pairing for another breeding season?!) but can still be seen around Ovda Valley. And the first\u00a0Spectacled Bulbuls\u00a0and\u00a0Graceful Prinias\u00a0with brood patches are caught daily at the IBRCE.<\/p>\n

Today Yotam caught the first\u00a0Ruppll’s\u00a0and\u00a0Savi’s Warbler\u00a0at the IBRCE amongst the other Sylvia’s, Phylo’s and Acro’s.<\/p>\n
