This morning I spent some time at Azamidani, Mount Unzen. There was an outside chance of migrant warblers and thrushes, however only the usual summer breeders and residents. The highlights were seeing the male Narcissus Flycatcher, Blue-and-white Flycatcher and Japanese Thrush.<\/p>\n

In particular, I observed what seemed to be some kind of courtship display by the male Narcissus, which attracted the female to the same branch although they stayed apart. An Asian Stubtail put in an appearance, but most warbler activity was limited to Japanese Bush Warbler.<\/p>\n

Other birds observed included Varied Tit, Eastern Great Tit, Meadow Bunting, Red-billed Leiothrix and Winter Wren. Also, on the way down the mountain I observed an Eurasian Cuckoo in a treetop, while the call of Lesser Cuckoo could be heard all over the mountain.<\/p>\n
