We were waiting for the Palawan Tit when we saw Wild Bird Photographers of the Philippines Fellow Rocky Sison pointing to birding buddy Michael something in the in the nearby under canopy. We’re not so enthusiastic to go to their place as Rocky left his gear beside us, but when we saw Michael making positions and began shooting frames, we were forced to abandon our wait and go for another that is already there. There we saw one LOVELY SUNBIRD, female, in the middle of a dark understory cluttered with vines and branches. Unmindful of anything, the bird just kept on preening, which gave us sometime to find some breakthroughs and shoot. When Rocky saw our excitement, he hurriedly went back to get his gear, but as soon as he was ready to shoot, the bird casually left to his great dismay.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The prominent green, yellow and white colors of this so backlighted shot made me try to present it in black and white, and lo and behold, I was able to get the effect that I have wanted to present – a tranquil preening bird showing its glory in a serene yet eery environment. A contrast that can only be shown in monochrome.<\/p>\n
