Hello from the East Coast of Iowa! That’s right, East coast. As in Mississippi River! I spent the weekend shooting Bald Eagles near Le Claire, IA. In winter, this area is one of the best places to photograph Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states. At several locks and dams along the northern portions of the river, small areas of water remain open even when most of the river is frozen. In January and February, Bald Eagles gather to feed on stunned fish below the dam. Lock and Dam 14, near Le Claire, provides outstanding access for wildlife photographers.<\/p>\n

I only had Saturday and Sunday to shoot – I wish I had more time. Saturday was overcast with intermittent snow and heavy wind. Sunday was sunny and cold. Here are some of the better shots from the weekend . . .<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
