The first Louisiana waterthrush of the spring appeared in Central Park in New York City last week. The Louisiana waterthrush is one of the first warblers to appear in the park during each spring migration. The bird was famous for a few days as local birdwatchers came out to look at it and to enjoy the fine weather. I found it in the park stream called The Gill. It was wading in the shallow water and foraging energetically. As I watched it caught what looked like a big crane fly (third picture, below). Despite the ultra urban setting, Central Park is one of the best spots in the United States to see migrating spring warblers.<\/p>\n
