On my recent 3 day hiking trip from the Swiss to the Italian National Park in the canton of Grisons, Switzerland and Lombardy in Italy, I was very fortunate in getting a shot of two Roe Deer.
To my amazement one deer ran straight up to me, stood there in awe for a second and then dashed off. The other deer, hidden in the overgrowth, called for it’s companion and after getting a reply found it’s way to meet up again.
The European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a Eurasian species of deer. The roe deer is relatively small, reddish and grey-brown, and well-adapted to cold environments. The species is widespread in Europe, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia, from Ireland to the Caucasus, and east to northern Iran and Iraq. It is distinct from the somewhat larger Siberian roe deer.
