Spiney Orb Weaver Spider (Gasteracantha canciformis). Found here in Florida most often around citrus trees….both in groves and suburban yards. Known locally as the “crab spider”due to their crablike carapace, they belong to the family of orb weavers, Arneidae, and are quite harmless. The Spiney Orb Weaver spins a large and strong web (like the […]

Action at the Lake
Late this afternoon I stopped in at what is reputedly the smallest and newest lake in Japan, Lake Shirachi in Shimabara. Actually more of a large pond than a lake, it is surrounded by streets but usually has herons and egrets as well as a few resident “soup” ducks. However it is also a good […]

One such lonely […]
Dog Day Afternoon…
From the moment my light aircraft touched down in the Okavango Delta I could feel it was going to be a hot one. The temperature approached the 100 degree mark and the wind was still. And yet the news that greeted me was fantastic. A pack of sixteen dogs had just entered the area, the […]

Deze Tureluur ging niet al te ver weg zitten van de auto en was daar een poosje aan het graven en vissen in het slootje naast het weiland. Echter op een gegeven ogenblik begon de Tureluur een soort kokhalsneigingen te […]
