A controversial plan by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service aims to cull up to 452,000 barred owls to protect the northern spotted owl populations on the West Coast.
This drastic measure has sparked significant opposition due to its potential impact on barred owls, risk to spotted owls and local wildlife, and the environment.
Sign this petition to urge that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reconsider its approach and explore non-lethal alternatives to manage the barred owl population!
The plan to deploy hunters in dense evergreen forests not only poses risks to the barred owls but could also inadvertently harm other species – including the very spotted owls they aim to protect.
Additionally, there are environmental concerns regarding lead dispersal from ammunition and the vastness of the control area.
It is clear that the current plan is not going to accomplish the goal of protecting spotted owls and might actually harm local animal populations.
If this plan may neither be sustainable nor effective in the long term, we must urge the government to reconsider.
