Given the warm climate and paradise setting of these islands which comprise lowland rainforest, isolated beaches and waterfalls, you will feel a bit jealous of the rich wildlife who call this place their home.
So whether you are a first-time adventure seeker or a seasoned animal enthusiast, there are terrains to traverse and exotic animals to see for everyone in the Caribbean.

Dominica
Best months to see wildlife: March to August
If you are sailing to the eastern Caribbean Islands, you will discover something new around every corner in Dominica. Nestled between the French territories of Martinique and Guadeloupe, this republic is a nature lover’s dream.
In addition to the wide variety of wildlife, Dominica, over 20 whale species can be spotted here, the most common being sperm whales during their migratory season.
But in particular the rainforests are prime habitat for over 100 bird species of which the Sisserou Parrot is endemic to Dominica and also finds a place on the country’s flag.
Grenada
Best months to see wildlife: January to May
Apart from the many animals and reptiles found in Grenada (also considered to be a safe island to visit), the two most sought after are the critically endangered Grenada Dove and the threatened Grenade Hook-Billed Kite which are exclusive to the island.
Another unique animal which is found here is the Mona Monkey which can be seen in good numbers in the Grand Etang National Park, right at the park’s entrance itself.
Puerto Rico
Best time to see wildlife: December to March
Sandwiched between the British Virgin Islands, United States and the Dominican Republic, the US territory of Puerto Rico has a diverse collection of flora and fauna including birds and reptiles.
The El Yunque National Forest, which is surprisingly the only subtropical forest in the entire United States, is home to an amazing variety of bird species, which attract birdwatchers from everywhere.
The best place to see them is at the Bosque Cambalache National Park where rarities like the Puerto Rican Parrot, while manta rays, turtles and whales can be found in abundance.
Tobago
Best time to see wildlife: March to September
Tobago may be small in comparison with its sister island, Trinidad, but despite the modest size it packs quite a punch when it comes to seeing diverse wildlife. It also happens to be the best birding spot in the Caribbean, because of the natural landscape, which is a sanctuary for birds.
Because of its proximity to the African continent, several large creatures can be seen here such as armadillos, agouti, wild pigs and a variety of reptiles. Sea Turtles are widespread here and can be found on Grafton Beach and the Great Courland Bay.
