This Scott’s Oriole (male) is in molt. Notice that his normally long tail is missing. The lack of a tail did not seem to hinder his flight. Scott’s Orioles are found in the southwestern state and into Mexico. They are common in our area of southern Baja.
This shows the difference between the mature male and the immature – the gray head color will darken with age.

The male Hooded has a black ‘bib’ and white wing bars.

The female is quite plain colored – uniform yellow/green – both the Hooded and Scott’s look very similar. These two species of Orioles are found in the southwestern states into Mexico and Central America. They are insect, fruit and nectar feeders. They are common in southern Baja, Mexico.
