The Northern Red Bishop or Orange Bishop (Euplectes franciscanus) is a beautiful weaver native to sub Sahara, Africa, although it can be found in other parts of the world. Adults reach 13 to 15 centimeters in length. In the breeding season, the male’s orange color will become a deep, rich scarlet. The Northern Red Bishop can be observed with its feathers puffed out, singing loudly from the tall grass as well as performing a slow hovering dance. It builds a woven nest in the tall reeds where two to four eggs will be laid. Feeds on grains and seeds and small insects.
