Rusty Blackbirds

I didn’t give Rusty Blackbirds enough credit previously. I like these guys. I like ’em a lot. Look at the lady, she’s beautiful! I’ve got too many things to do today – like run and pack (I’m moving to Austin for the field season to give my Golden-cheeked Warbler buddies some more attention). I finally got new running shoes, some of the Merrell barefoot ones, I’m kind of excited about it. Now I skeedaddle.

rusty5 — The Rusty Blackbird, Euphagus carolinus, is a medium-sized blackbird, closely related to grackles (Rusty Grackle is an older name for the species).

rusty3 — These birds migrate to the eastern and southeastern United States, into parts of the Grain Belt, sometimes straying into Mexico.

rusty4 — Their breeding habitat is wet temperate coniferous forests and muskeg across Canada and Alaska.

She has worked with several federally endangered bird species (including the Golden-cheeked Warbler, Black-capped Vireo and Piping Plover), sea turtles, and bats all over the United States. She is rarely in one place for more than a few months at a time and her whereabouts are often confusing.
