An unlikely rescue story out of Utah is reminding people just how resilient wildlife can be.
According to CBS News, a young great horned owl is on the road to recovery after workers at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab spent days carefully removing hardened concrete from his feathers.
The bird had accidentally fallen into a cement mixer at Black Desert Resort, leaving his face, chest and wing encased in dried debris.
Sanctuary staff acted fast to ensure the owl could breathe, then began the slow process of chipping off the concrete with forceps and gently cleaning his feathers with toothbrushes, dish soap and their own hands.
The sanctuary described him as a fighter, and his determination paid off.
After two weeks of round the clock care, he was able to fly again and is now recovering in an aviary while he regrows the feathers he needs for silent flight.
