In case you haven’t checked out the first part of this interesting tussle between the African Lion and the Cape Buffaloes, you can read about it here. When the Lion realised that the Buffaloes are getting too close for comfort, it got up and walked straight towards us and hid in the trench nearby. The […]
Greater Flamingo flocks – Jubail
Whilst birding the Jubail area recently I recorded plenty of Greater Flamingos in several large groups. Numbers possibly amounted to over three thousand birds, a good count to the location. I also saw Grey-headed Swamphen a species that breed in the area as well as the less common Purple Heron and Spanish Sparrow. Wintering Daurian […]
A week in the forest of Dean
Just back from a week away in the Forest of Dean with my grandson with limited birding opportunities as the week was geared around ensuring he had a good time. I added a few year ticks with Ravens in the garden of our cottage and I twitched the Yellow-browed Warbler a couple of miles from […]
Cattle Egrets
A big influx of Cattle Egrets in Cornwall & Devon at the moment with birds turning up at various sites across the two counties, the largest flock had to be at Walmsley in Cornwall where probably seventy birds or more were busy gorging on Frogs. Quite a sight.

On a recent trip, traveling from the UK with Naturetrek, we were hoping that we might see one. We were staying for three […]
Waxwings
Next week temperatures are forecast to fall below -10C and will not rise above zero for the whole week so the spring migrants that have already arrived will probably have to head back south or perish. Inspired by my success on Wednesday, I travelled up the Glomma River from Nordre Øyeren to the Bean Goose […]
Radipole and Lodmoor – 13th February
I was working in Sidford, Devon again today and having finished at around 11:00 I decided to divert my route home and head for the Weymouth area for a couple of light weight rarities. First up, at Radipole RSPB was a first-winter drake Ring-necked Duck which had been present on the reserve since 4th November. […]
