Well, November seems to have passed me by without seeing a single bird of any note while much of the UK seemed to be awash with rare Swift‘s. I have barely managed to get out due to work commitments and a general low ebb in my birding enthusiasm, this comes to me once in a […]

Grey Catbird – Cornwall – 18th-23rd October
Sarah, Tobias and I had a few days booked at our cottage between St.Ives and Zennor and with the Grey Catbird, first found on 15th October, still present come 18th I was anxious to get on the road to try and see the bird. Sarah washeading down at around 11:00 with Tobias but I couldn’t […]
Pennington Marsh – 23rd March
With a couple of hours to spare after dropping Tobias at school I had a wander around Pennington Marsh taking in Jetty, Butts, Fishtail and Keyhaven Lagoons. It was a bright spring like day but with a strong NW wind it was deceptively cold. Numbers of wader and wildfowl had shown a noticeable and decrease […]
Amazing Firecrest fall at Dunge
Wanting Bluethroat for a year tick we headed down to Dunge this morning arriving just after first light. A few Goldcrests flitted around with them and a couple of singing Chiffchaff […]
Sleeping Pygmy Owl

African birds at the bottom of the Raydah Escarpment – Abha
Whilst birding the lower areas of the Raydah Escarpment in late March I saw a number of African species. Birds seen included African Grey Hornbill, Violet-backed Starling, Black-crowned Tchagra, Bruce’s Green Pigeon and White-browed Coucal. Bruce’s Green Pigeon is an interesting species as it only eats the fruit of a single type of fig tree. […]
Pennington Marsh – 7th April
This first half of April has been fantastic, like mid-summer come early, after an early morning breeding bird survey where the highlights were a couple of Song Thrush and a Willow Warbler I spent a couple of hours at Pennington Marsh. Spring really is here and there wereBlackcap singing from the scrub, fair numbers of […]
