About a week ago I drove down to Viera Wetlands, hopefully to find a Lark Sparrow that had been seen a couple days earlier. We missed that, and we hardly saw anything else either. And the wetlands were closed off. However, there were many Green Herons there, and one in particular posed for photos.

Viera Wetlands, 1/18/2014
Yesterday I made it out to Viera Wetlands for a little bit during the afternoon. I much prefer to go in the morning, but even though family commitments kept me home in the morning, afternoon birding proved to be all that I’d hoped. My biggest goal was to see an Ash-throated Flycatcher that’s been seen […]
Southwest Florida Birding Hot Spots
I just finished my 2013 Southwest Florida birding and photography trip. February is nesting and mating season so the birds are active and decked out in breeding plumage making for great photo ops. Some chicks, such as great blue herons and anhingas, have already hatched. It’s a great time of year. I’vebeen shooting in Florida […]
The Black-bellied Whistling Duck

In the USA, it can be found also in parts of southeast Texas, seasonally in southeast Arizona and Louisiana’s Gulf Coast. Florida is one of the rare places, in the USA, that it breeds, otherwise in tropical […]

It is a water reclamation area with wonderful surrounds and attracts […]

They are everywhere now, latched together, having sex, or should I say propagating the species. The male must transfer sperm from […]
Labor Day Weekend – Visiting a New Place and the Regulars Return
I spent this weekend going first to a place I had not been before, Jetty Park, which is in Cape Canaveral, FL. It is along the Atlantic coast, just north of Cocoa Beach. The beach is really nice and we were greeted with a lovely sunrise, the first image shown below. There was a fair […]
Even With The Heat, Nature Provides Beauty
Well, for us humans the days of summer, especially in Florida, are a bit unbearable. But for some species, it is their time to mate, build nests, and care for their young. One of these species is the black-bellied whistling duck. My favorite wetland area, the Viera Wetlands, in Viera, FL, is home to many […]
