Thank you! The magnificent bird pictured once was endemic from Ireland and Britain across the Mediterranean and South Asia. It cannot easily recover due to excessive human overexploitation of habitats in Europe. Its size is similar to California Condor and almost to Andean Condor. Ecological niche means place in the food web, and vultures are highly important in returning nutrients from deceased individuals to their living communities. From Bald eagle and Turkey vulture fertilizing Pacific rainforest Trees, to Wolf, Bear, Lammergeier, redistribution of the bodies of the dead is a highly important niche.
