We’ve heard of cat, dog, and even raccoon rescues — but our winged friends have had moments of peril too.

Luckily, there are some amazing humans out there ready to step up to the plate and take care of birds when they need it most.

From small birds who have accidentally run into windows to “crazy” shelter parrots, birds deserve love too!

1. Vandal

In January of 2022, Nadya lost her mother. Overcome with sadness, she decided to turn to something that always made her happy: birds. She decided to go to the local rescue center and sit with the birds. This is where she met Vandal, a parrot that was “too crazy” to adopt.

2. Freezing and Trapped

When a man noticed a little bird freezing and trapped on his car roof, he knew he had to do something. With a cardboard box, he slowly pushed the bird free and warmed him up so he could fly away.

3. Muffin

A woman found a tiny bird on the side of the road in Delhi, India. She tried to call vets and rescue centers, but no one seemed to want to help. So, she helped the bird get healthy and now Muffin is a part of the family!

4. Twerp

A woman, named Susan, found a baby finch on her porch all alone. She picked him up and kept him warm while she waited for his mother to come back. Instantly, she started researching how to save the bird. Now, she can’t imagine her life without Twerp — who comes and goes as he pleases.

5. Happy

This rescued Sparrow has a big personality! He was found when he was a day old with a big scab on his beak and blood on his head. So, he was taken to a rehabber and told that he would not be releasable. This meant he had to be euthanized unless someone would adopt him. That’s when Maria realized she had a new family member.

These five incredible bird rescues, we’re reminded of the incredible power that compassion, determination, and human innovation hold when it comes to safeguarding our feathered friends.
