Man seen hitting elephant with a stick so hard he loses his balance and is crushed to death

In Karappuzha, southern India, a horrific video was leaked showing a man being crushed to death by an elephant.

According to reports, the elephant was owned by a local hospital trust.

Arun Panikkar, the man in the video, was an elephant caretaker who was washing the elephant.

The 40-year-old man attempted to persuade the elephant to take a seat in attempt to clean their back.

The man is shown slamming his cane against the elephant so hard that he loses his equilibrium and falls beneath it.

When a second man notices what is going on, he rushes to free the elephant from the man.

He eventually gets the elephant to stand up, but it was too late.

An examination of Panikkar found that he died instantly.
