Snouted (or Long headed) grasshopper

Snouted (or Long headed) grasshopper

Acrida ungarica (Truxalis nasuta) – Orthoptera – () – I have wished to photograph a specimen for some years and coming across one is quite an excitement! They come also in green! Common in the Emirates but can been found more rarely also in the south-east of France, Corsica and Spain; its length reaches 8 cm for females, males are smaller!

They live in hot and dry places where temperatures can soar up to 45°C in summer. That day it was cool, only 35°C! The under-wings are exquisite: whitish with dark red at the base. This one is definitely a female considering her size: so here is “big mummy long-legs”!

Snouted (or Long headed) grasshopper
(Truxalis nasuta)
