From Fiction to Reality … in a Split Second!



So many of us grew up with Wiley Coyote doing everything under the sun to catch the quick . As a child, I used to watch the coyote develop elaborate plans to catch the roadrunner for a quick meal, only to have things backfire and leaving the coyote in a “lost again” situation.

Well, in May I traveled to south (the ) to photograph an assortment of birds that are not common to my home state of Missouri. Among the many birds I encountered, the Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) was one of my favorite. Although this bird did not perform quite the same as the fictional cartoon character, it sure was a beauty to watch and photograph. And yes, it did run about the area around the water hole, foraging for insects.
