Nycticorax nycticorax – Quite a common species round the world. It is only in its 3rd year that the young takes on its adult plumage.
Usually nocturnal, it is interesting to notice that in a protected area, it comes out in broad day light even if it does not hunt.
These pics were taken at Le Teich, a French preserve on the Atlantic coast.
Bihoreau gris – Ardeidé proche du héron, très commun dans de nombreuses régions de la planète. Le jeune ne revêt pas son plumage adulte avant sa troisième année: il a l’œil orangé, un bec jaune-verdâtre et des pattes jaune-clair; son plumage est brun tacheté de blanc et vire au brunâtre avant d’atteindre ses couleurs définitives. Plutôt nocturne, c’est intéressant de constater que dans une zone protégée il sort en plein jour, même s’il ne pêche pas vraiment.
Réserve Ornithologique du Teich – espace naturel préservé et aménagé pour accueillir les oiseaux sauvage; quelques immatures nous ont proposé un joli spectacle le premier jour, grâce à l’un d’eux particulièrement excité qui fichait une rouste à tous ceux qui se trouvaient sur son chemin!
