Common bullfinch

Common bullfinch

Pyrrhula pyrrhulaPasseriformes

This species is uncommon in my area.
It was one my many challenges to photograph this beauty, although the male is much more colourful than the female. I had heard about a pair coming to a friend’s garden early in the morning. So I set my hide tent at 7H30 and lo and behold, both birds appeared at 7H40 sharp!

In opposition to its gorgeous plumage, its song is resumed to one short and soft note. The is shy and doesn’t like to show up in the open unless in the company of other passerine birds.
