Smile for the European goldfinch!

– Like many small migratory passerine birds, I did not see many goldfinches this year in the south of . It really is my fetish passerine, having rescued and hand raised a few when I was young! Although the cage remained opened they preferred to spend the night inside for safety and eat seeds but our meals were very attractive.

They had a bath in a hollow dish filled with water in the middle of the table for our greatest pleasure! They usually dried their feathers on my grandfather’s head and he didn’t dare move or breathe!! At the mating season a certain Zizoo perched on my grandmother’s glasses trying to seduce her, it was much fun!
The Goldfinch’s song is even more beautiful and elaborated they that of a wild one when living with humans, a fact I still cannot explain.
