Keeping Your Pets Happy And Well Fed Just Got Easier Than Ever

Keeping the four-legged member of your family happy is nowhere as difficult as some people paint it out to be. Sure, it does require some commitment, but so does everything else in life. The difference here is that happy and healthy pets also promote the general well-being of the owner. So, if you think about it, the relationship between man and pets yields mutual benefits, and there is sufficient evidence to support this statement.

Here is how to keep your pet happy and well-fed.

Exercise With Them

According to statistics from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP), 56% of adult dogs in the United States are obese or overweight. The problem is equally bad in cats, with data showing 60% of all cats in the US are overweight. Obesity and overweight issues leave pets susceptible to severe medical conditions like heart diseases and osteoarthritis.

To protect your pets, you have to encourage them to exercise. One of the best ways of doing so is by walking or jogging with your dog. Tag them along when you are going hiking, swimming, or any other pet-friendly outdoor activity. You can also play catch with them. Toys are also good at keeping pets active even when you are busy or away from home.

A fit pet is a happy pet. Moreover, spending quality time with your pet is a love language. Your pet will enjoy every second of it, and this will keep them happy.

Provide Playing Toys

Toys give your pets endless entertainment. They’ll keep your cat or dog engaged while you’re catching up with some of your favorite TV shows. They also protect your pets from loneliness and boredom when you are away from home.

You should know that not all toys are suitable for your pet. Some of them are made of harmful chemicals that can harm your dogs, while others could choke your curious canine companion. It’s crucial to choose the toys carefully. Below are some of the things you should consider when shopping for a pet toy:

  • Size of your pet
  • Traits of your pet
  • Strength of your pet
  • Materials used to make the toy

Perform Your Grooming Duties

Pet grooming is an essential responsibility for every owner. This is your time to clean up your adventurous friend and screen him for any changes that may require a trip to the vet.

Pet grooming involves duties like trimming their nails, bathing them, brushing them, giving them oral care, etc.

How often should you groom your pet? Well, this depends on the specific pet in question since different breeds have different grooming needs. The only way to get a more accurate routine for your particular pet is by consulting your veterinarian.

Keep Them Under A Healthy Diet

We cannot talk about happy pets without mentioning the role of a healthy diet. Your dog, cat, bunny, birds, etc., can only be as healthy as the diet you put them on. Luckily, there are plenty of healthy foods on the market for the different pets in the world. There are many healthy fruits, vegetables, and lean meat that can nourish your dogs and cats with all the nutrients they need.

Likewise, bird keepers have lots of options to choose from. For instance, low-fat millet spray for birds will supply your pets with stimulation and nutrients without putting their health in danger. The spray millet is high in proteins, carbohydrates, and minerals that are highly beneficial to parrots, cockatiels, and budgies. Meanwhile, bunny lovers can spoil their rabbits with fresh veggies and fruits.

Remember to keep your pets hydrated.

This is the perfect time to tell you that you should choose your food and water bowls carefully. And clean them regularly to keep harmful bacteria away.

Take Them For Regular Checkups

Being proactive is the best way to stay on top of your pet’s well-being. Vets recommend at least one check-up per year. However, depending on the specific breed of your pet and their medical history, you may have to check in with the doctor more frequently.

During your checkup sessions, the vet will inspect your pet’s physical well-being from head to tail. They’ll also take some blood samples for further tests.

Pet dental care is also critical. This can be done during the annual checkup or in a separate appointment.

Let Them Make Some Friends

Your dog needs friends just as much as you do. Schedule a pet date with your best friend and let your pup socialize with your friend’s dog. You can also take them for a walk at the dog park and allow them to interact with other animals. Make sure your dog is well behaved when in public spaces.

Show Some Love

Finally, show your pet affection. This can be done by patting and brushing them. You can also spoil them with healthy treats occasionally. This is good for their emotional and general well-being.

Taking care of your pet is all about paying attention to them. Watch closely what they eat and how much they are eating. Keep them cleaned and exercised. Lastly, monitor their behavior.
